How does the sleeve on the Sportz SUV Tent fit around the vehicle?
The vehicle sleeves on the SUV tents have an elastic portion, which allows you to place the sleeve around the back of the SUV or minivan.  There are adjustable straps to ensure that the sleeve fits snugly around the vehicle.

Will bugs find their way into the tent through the vehicle sleeve?
No, the vehicle sleeve has two fabric flaps on the inside that allows you to seal any minor gaps that may occur in the vehicle sleeve due to the shape/curve of your vehicle.  If you are extremely concerned, you can use magnets on the flaps to secure it to your vehicle however it is not necessary.

Will the SUV tent fit on my SUV that has barn doors?
Yes, if your vehicle has barn doors we recommend the larger model SUV Tent such as the Sportz SUV 84000 with the detachable screen room.  For safety reasons, we recommend that the doors remain closed while you are sleeping.

Will the SUV tent fit on a truck that has a camper shell/cap on it?
Yes, providing the circumference around the truck and cap is not more than 24’.

Can one person set up the tent?
One person is able to set up a tent; however we do recommend if at all possible that on the first set up to have assistance.

How can I make sure that my tent is the most water resistant it can be?
Sportz tents do have a water resistant coating on them.  The coating may wear down over time therefore you may want to spray a water repellent coating on to the tent and rain fly after a few years of use.  We recommend using McNett Thunder Shield silicon water repellent.  You can use a footprint to help protect the tent’s floor. For extra water protection, full-length rain fly’s are available as an accessory for Sportz SUV Tents.

Do I need to use a seam sealer on my Sportz SUV tent?
Yes, while the Sportz tents’ rain fly’s are seam sealed, the tent seams themselves are not seam sealed.  We highly recommend you seam seal the seams before using the tent as water may penetrate the needle holes in the fabric.  Water coming through the needle holes along the seams is common with tents and is not a manufacturers defect.

My pole broke? How do I get a new one?
Please refer to the Warranty section on the website.

Is there a warranty?
There is a one-year manufacturer defect warranty.  Please consult the Warranty section on the website.

Amazing tent! Very versatile and fits my 4runner perfectly. Love the feature of either using it attached to your vehicle or as a stand-alone tent when you need to leave camp for supplies.
I use the tent as an annex/storage area and sleep in the back of the 4runner. I was initially in the market for a rooftop tent with annex ($2000) but required a new full-size roof rack ($1600) to support the weight. I have no regrets and extremely happy I went this route. Setup is a breeze and love the idea of having a living room, storage, and changing area. Love the no-see-um mesh windows for 180 degree views.
Survived heavy rain and periodic wind gusts up to 40mph throughout the night. Make sure you seal the seams and properly stake the tent if you’re expecting torrential weather. One reviewer mentioned this tent is unstable in the wind. In my experience this tent was built to withstand the wind! The steel poles allowed the tent to remain stable and stood strong against high gusts.
The inside contains 2 storage pockets, a gear net that attaches to the ceiling of the tent, and hook loop to hang a lantern.
You won’t regret this purchase. Highly recommended!!!

My husband set it up and says it was really quick and easy once he figured it out. It hooked up perfectly to our Rav4. We made it through a heavy rainstorm and everything stayed dry!

Finally got to use it last week. The plan was to sleep in the back of our SUV and use the tent for all our gear + a place for our dog to sleep. All worked as planned. Took us awhile to put it up, but we’ll get better. We camped in the AZ desert and it was 48 degrees at night, so we put the rainfly on and it was cozy. The only thing I don’t like is how high the bottom is – I trip on it, but that’s me. We are in our 60s and have come full circle back to a tent and this was the best choice for us.

This was a bit of a game changer for me. First, this tent is huge. Slated to sleep at least 4, it’s the headroom that I love the most. I can stand up and still have a few feet above me. That means no stooping to get dressed, and no smacking your head on a hanging lantern. Next is the nifty part – it hooks up to your car. There is durable, stretchy tube that makes the back of your car part of the tent for a massive amount of extra space for storage, organization, or even sleeping if you want to fold down all the seats.

I spend about 50 nights a year in a tent, and after my old Cabela’s Truck Tent (no longer made) wore out I researched and bought the similar Napier tent. After one season I can give it a fair rating.
PRO – with three doors (two regular and one for the SUV) and one window it has great access and ventilation. The roof has one full panel and one half panel of screened material, making it good for summer but not as warm in winter. Two of the doors have rainfly shades that can be staked out, but the tent only comes with one set of poles and guylines. Quite roomy with nearly vertical walls, and I’ve managed to seat 6 people inside for short social visits. The carrying bag has an expansion zipper that makes repacking MUCH easier. Easy to set up, but you need to attach the rainfly before raising the poles if doing it solo.
CON – the door zippers tend to snag on the zipper covers, and I’ve had one jam so badly that it is now unusable – lucky there’s another identical door! Wall material is rather thin, and the rainfly has faded noticeably in one sunny season, but everything is holding up other than the one door zipper. To cover the outside of the truck door you must leave the heavy tube and straps zipped over it, which can be noisy in the wind if no vehicle is attached. All the other three windows are covered by the rainfly, so no water can collect at the bottom of the screen. The 4 main poles have the spikes at the bottom (!!), which is fine if setting up on dirt, but hard on ground tarps or if setting up on wood decks or stone.

It took me about 20 min to unpack and put up the first time by myself. The second time it took less than 5. Snaps right on to my pathfinder. Nice and tall, my 6’4″ husband doesn’t have to hunch over while inside. Large enough inside for a queen blow up mattress and two dog beds.

The Sportz SUV Tent is just what I was looking for and more. It fits the back of my Volvo XC90 just right. There is plenty of room for all my gear in the tent while I sleep comfortably in the back of the Sportwagon. It provides me with shelter in case of bad weather and shade with the extented 6×6 awning. Its overall versatility is what makes this unit so practical providing so many features all in one unit.

Purchased tent to fit around the back hatch of a VW Vanagon model years 1980-1991. It fit great as the vehicle sleeve fits over the rear hatch and no issues with the hatch being too long to fit in the sleeve. We used the tent standalone as well during our trip to East Coast, worked fantastic. Nice having extra room to store and change in as well, great height. We didn’t take on any water but it was a dry summer so no real downpours. Zippers all worked well, fairly painless to set up, my 12 and 14 year old were able to follow instructions and get it set up. Our next adventure is to get it to install with sleeve with the sliding door open for better interior access. I am pleased with the tent standalone and attached to our Vanagon. Time will tell on its durability.

Even though it was 25 degrees outside it didn’t stop the excitement of seeing the tent attached to the Suburban. My son’s were so excited to see what it would look like and how fun camping would be with the Napier SUV/Minivan tent. We like to do a lot of outdoor events and activities so the Napier SUV/Minivan tent is great for all the events that we love.

SUV camping is different. And Napier Outdoors makes it different and fun too. Connecting a tent to our Jeep Commander is a big adjustment, but it allows for new improvements to our camp setup that we never thought about before.

Our newest addition to the family means that this summer we will be camping with an infant and three children ranging in ages 4-10, which makes choosing the right gear for our adventure even more important. The idea of an SUV tent that would attach directly to my car and allow us additional sleeping space inside the cargo area, plus easy access to our gear, sounded extremely convenient when camping with kids in tow.

We set our tent up for the first time in the living room as it was rainy outside. The instructions were easy to follow and we had it up in under half an hour, including the fly. Might be a bit longer when we pound in the stakes and hook it up to our new KIA Soul EV. (no need to worry about exhaust) 10 minutes to take it down and repack. The manufacturer recommends McNett Thunder Shield silicone water repellant, but any silicone seam sealer from your local Outdoors store should work.
