How does the sleeve on the Backroadz SUV Tent fit around the vehicle?
The vehicle sleeves on the SUV tents have an elastic portion, which allows you to place the sleeve around the back of the SUV or minivan.  There are adjustable straps to ensure that the sleeve fits snugly around the vehicle.

Will bugs find their way into the tent through the vehicle sleeve?
No, the vehicle sleeve has two fabric flaps on the inside that allows you to seal any minor gaps that may occur in the vehicle sleeve due to the shape/curve of your vehicle.  If you are extremely concerned, you can use magnets on the flaps to secure it to your vehicle however it is not necessary.

Will the SUV tent fit on my SUV that has barn doors?
Yes, if your vehicle has barn doors we recommend the larger model SUV Tent such as the Sportz SUV 84000 with the detachable screen room.  For safety reasons, we recommend that the doors remain closed while you are sleeping.

Will the SUV tent fit on a truck that has a camper shell/cap on it?
Yes, providing the circumference around the truck and cap is not more than 24’.

Can one person set up the tent?
One person is able to set up a tent; however we do recommend if at all possible that on the first set up to have assistance.

How can I make sure that my tent is the most water resistant it can be?
Backroadz tents do have a water resistant coating on them.  The coating may wear down over time therefore you may want to spray a water repellent coating on to the tent and rain fly after a few years of use.  We recommend using McNett Thunder Shield silicon water repellent.  You can use a footprint to help protect the tent’s floor.  For extra water protection, full-length rain fly’s are available as an accessory.

Do I need to use a seam sealer on my Backroadz SUV tent?
Yes, while the Backroadz tents’ rain fly’s are seam sealed, the tent seams themselves are not seam sealed.  We highly recommend you seam seal the seams before using the tent as water may penetrate the needle holes in the fabric.  Water coming through the needle holes along the seams is common with tents and is not a manufacturers defect.

My pole broke? How do I get a new one?
Please refer to the Warranty section on the website.

Is there a warranty?
There is a one-year manufacturer defect warranty.  Please consult the Warranty section on the website.

Tent went up in 10 min by myself for the first time. I have an 2005 gmc Sierra with a camper shell. It worked better than I could ever imagine.

Very happy with this tent. I have used it twice, had no problems putting it up myself. I would highly recommend it. Easy to hook up to my Explorer.

Used this with a 2009 Dodge Caravan. Only trouble was we camped in a high occupancy bear area which meant food had to be stored inside the vehicle at night, which meant we had to close the hatch at night while also sleeping in the vehicle. To accommodate opening and closing the hatch while attached to the tent, we had to allow hatch to open into tent opening more than designed (instead of its designated sleeve), which meant you bumped your head at times.
Otherwise, as an anteroom to the van this tent was amazing. And as I say, if we could have left the hatch open at night as it’s designed, this problem wouldn’t have occurred, as it did fit the vehicle perfectly. While away from the campsite we detached from the tent and left some supplies inside and out of sight. When it turned rainy we moved the cookstove inside onto a 2’x4′ folding table and still had room for two chairs and 4 totes of supplies.
One small word of warning….if using state or provincial campsites where you must back your vehicle into your site, make sure you choose a campsite configuration that allows tent to open onto picnic table and fire pit side, as in this case your only tent door will always face the passenger side of the van (unlike unattached tents or drive-through campsites that allow you choice).
Thanks Napier, for a well-designed and well-made product….you’ve made it simple and convenient for us to camp with our van.

Wonderful product. I’ve only been tent camping a fews years, was something I took up as an activity with my teenage son. I’m not a fan of sleeping on the ground, I like to be cozy and warm even when deep in the forest. This tent has been a perfect match for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I enjoy the comfort of an air mattress in the warm, quiet “penthouse” while my son and his buddies enjoy the experience of “real” tent camping. My second favorite feature (next to the vehicle attachment) is it’s spaciousness. At 6’4″ its the only affordable tent I’ve come across that I can easily stand upright and move around in, with room to spare for storing gear inside the tent. For a novice like me, it was an easy setup and take down. After three years (average three trips per year) I had to order a replacement set of fiberglass poles, two began badly splintering, but the set was very reasonably priced direct from Napier. My only suggestion would be to add zip flaps to the windows, the rain fly offers limited protection in blowing rain.

love it. I use it both attached and detached from my SUV. Love the extra storage and easy access when it is attached, especially when it is raining. Easy to put up and take down.

The instant benefit of this is that it eliminates trips from the tent to the car and back if you need batteries, food, water, etc. Everything you may have forgotten in the car at night or during a rainstorm is easily accessible as the tent attaches to the vehicle.

I bought this tent for use with my Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner…wasn’t sure if it would actually fit, since the tent is actually designed for SUV’s not trucks. My Tacoma has a camper cap/top. It works GREAT! Fits better than I expected and the only mod I made was to place a pool noodle on the edge of my cap door to protect the fabric. Definitely would recommend to anyone!! AND, I put it up all by myself, yes, including the tent fly… took me 25 minutes total the first time (had to read instructions…) but it is VERY intuitive once you get the “vehicle end” facing the right direction for the tent and the fly….The only “but” I have is that there are no storm flaps for the two windows, but the fly pretty much takes care of that and since I am sleeping in the truck bed itself, it’s not a major detractor.

Tent was all that was promised. Very spacious and comfortable inside — I especially like being able to stand up and of course the access to the tailgate of the car is terrific. The ten appears reasonably well constructed, and was also relatively easy to set up. I love that it can fit basically any SUV type car, so I will still be able to use it when I get a new car. I thought the price was reasonable, and would definitely recommend it.

Everything I wanted for a great price.
My wife and I knew we wanted a tent to connect to our Jetta Sportswagon. We looked at several models and this was the most basic, but that’s what makes it great. No frills, no unnecessary attachment. It’s just simple two pole dome tent. I can set it up solo.

Not only is it a well-made tent, it’s actually completed what I think is the most affordable – road unit I could have for personal travel. Having owned camp trailers, I know that lugging one around behind my SUV is possible, but totally inconvenient.

If you’ve got the Napier Outdoors Backroadz, you’ve got an instant camper anywhere you go. It’s one of the most versatile options available, coming in sizes suitable for truck beds from 5’-5” to 8 feet long, and is made of a tough 800 mm polyester taffeta fabric.

Just imagine taking a road trip or driving off road and finding that beautiful spot that you’d love to pitch your tent for the night. You grab your tent from behind the back seat, set it up in the bed of your truck in about 10 minutes, and you’re ready to enjoy the most amazing sunset ever. This is what you get with Napier tents. Their products allow you to convert your truck or SUV into your next camp site
